An Italian street lesson

Yesterday was the last day of lessons of the mini basic, intensive, Italian course in Magreglio.
With Cam and Ann we decided to celebrate, leaving behind the theory, immersing ourselves in the practice of the language and life in Italy.
And here we are strolling, chatting, in simple but fascinating places, such as the surroundings of Magreglio, completely off the beaten track of mass tourism. Places where respect for the environment and its conservation, where history and roots still have a lot of value. We set out in search of authenticity.
So here we are, starting the day with a visit to signora Gina’s shop in Lasnigo, 10 minutes from Magreglio, one of the few shops in Northern Italy that has remained exactly the same as it was 60 years ago.

The products displayed all in order on the counter and shelves, the candies collected in the special jars, the simple showcase, with only the pasta on display. No signs, no lights, just an inscription, which tells us the essential: “FOOD”. We are alone in the shop and we can chat with the owner and her daughter. Personal and collective stories are intertwined in the story. A good practice of Italian and a pleasant encounter with the life of the country, quiet and relaxed.

The next practice we do is… at the table, with our friend Giovanni, in a small family restaurant, inside a house from the 1600s, where you eat simple but very good Italian food, the fruit of local and national tradition. A place frequented only by locals, where we are the only tourists.
