Amid the warm colours of autumn, Bellagio, one of the most beautiful and famous place in Italy, will host, from 23rd October to 10th November, the first residential, semi-intensive Italian courses for foreigners; the one-week courses will take place at the Hotel Il Perlo.

THE COURSES

The courses, (basic, intermediate, advanced),  will start on 23rd October, with a small group of students: maximum 7.

About the basic course:  simple but fun, the course aims for rapid knowledge of everyday Italian, useful for travellers who wish to understand and express themselves in typical situations of everyday life in Italy (e.g introducing themselves, shopping, eating out at a restaurant, hiring a car, dealing with unexpected problems etc).

Each  course consists of 19 lessons: 3 lessons a day, from Monday to Friday, plus two afternoons (2 + 2 lessons) out and about Bellagio in the company of the teacher.

THE METHOD

The focus is on learning the language by using it, concentrating more on practice than on pure theory: in class, under the teacher’s guidance, students will act out and ‘live’ varied situations from everyday life which they will then encounter outside in the real world, having fun while assimilating the requisite language.
To check on progress, students will then practise and reinforce what they have learnt in lessons by spending two afternoons ‘in the field’: going shopping together, or to a bar, or visiting a beautiful old villa on Lake Como.

Extra-curricular practical lessons in Italian cooking are also available on request.
Furthermore, staff at the Hotel Il Perlo are always ready to help students practise and further their knowledge of Italian.

WHERE

The course will take place at Hotel Il Perlo, an enchanting hotel 3 kilometers from the centre of Bellagio, with a breathtaking view of Lake Como and surrounding mountains. The hotel has been run by the San Cassano family for three generations, ever since the 1920s, when they transformed an ancient mill (Il Perlo) on a spur above Bellagio into a lodging inn for the first tourists to Lake Como, subsequently developing it into a delightful and welcoming hotel, where attention to detail and guests’ needs are a priority.
It’s a place of great natural beauty, which can boast among its past guests maestro Arturo Toscanini the renowned orchestral conductor who loved to rest and recover here after his concerts.
The San Cassano family offers its guests genuine kindness, excellent Italian food and a surprisingly wide range of activities to enjoy in free time (bike rides in the woods or on the slopes of the Ghisallo, canoeing on the lake, walking excursions, visits to historic villas of Lake Como and much more).

THE COST

The cost of the course (15 hours in the classroom plus 4 hours outside) is 310 euros (plus 25 euros for the study book), including a visit, together with the teacher, to one of the historic villas of Lake Como.
For those wishing to continue to perfect their knowledge of Italian, the cost of a subsequent week’s course  (with at least 3 students) is  280 euros.

The cost of the hotel: 65 euros per night, with half board, in a two beds shared bedroom.
15 euros per night extra for a double room used as a single room.
